Rainbow Hub – Building the Technology Foundation for Brighter Futures

About us

Rainbow Hub is a remarkable children’s charity based in Lancashire. They provide therapy, education, and vital support to children and young people with neurological conditions and physical disabilities. Their work changes lives – not just for the children, but for their families, who find community, understanding, and practical help when they need it most.

While the results of their work are easy to see – the progress children make, the joy in their faces – the reality is that behind the scenes, a great deal of unseen infrastructure has to be in place to keep everything running smoothly. This is where technology plays a crucial role. Unfortunately, the systems Rainbow Hub relied upon were no longer fit for purpose.

The Challenge

When we first met the team at Rainbow Hub, they were operating on an outdated server with equally ageing computers. Staff were spending upwards of thirty minutes a day battling slow, unresponsive systems – a huge drain on time, energy, and morale.

As they prepared to launch the Rainbow Hub School, the demands on their technology were set to grow even further. They needed a strong, reliable IT backbone capable of supporting modern teaching and therapy methods, enabling staff to collaborate easily, and ensuring that children could benefit from technology in their sessions.

They knew the situation needed to change, but they also needed a partner who would understand the heart of their work and approach the challenge with care.

Our Approach

From our very first conversation, it was clear that Rainbow Hub didn’t just need new kit – they needed a complete rethink of how IT could work for them.

We began by mapping out their current pain points and identifying where technology could give back precious time to staff. Then we designed a solution that would replace their old, unreliable systems with a modern, flexible, and secure infrastructure.

Our work included:

  • Microsoft Cloud Migration – moving them away from outdated on-premise systems into the Microsoft Cloud, enabling secure, collaborative, and location-independent working.

  • Modern Hardware – providing staff with fast, reliable devices to improve productivity and reduce downtime.

  • High-Performance Wi-Fi – installing robust wireless networks to support the tech used daily in both therapy and lessons.

  • Dedicated Leased Line – ensuring high-speed, stable internet to keep everything running smoothly, even during the busiest times.

  • Ongoing IT Support – offering proactive maintenance and friendly, accessible help whenever they need it, so IT is never a barrier to their work.

This wasn’t just a ‘set it and forget it’ project – we remain on hand to ensure their systems continue to evolve alongside the charity’s needs.

The Results

The transformation has been significant. Where once staff lost valuable time battling unreliable systems, they can now focus entirely on their work with the children. The improved infrastructure supports the charity’s day-to-day operations and their long-term growth plans.

For Rainbow Hub, our work meant that the technology was ready from day one – with reliable internet, strong Wi-Fi coverage, and the ability to run the tools and devices needed for learning and therapy without disruption.

As the team themselves put it, our partnership has been “priceless”. That means the world to us.

More than IT Support

At String, we’re proud of the work we do for every client, but there’s something particularly special about working with Rainbow Hub.

Anyone who has spent time there quickly understands the sense of purpose that runs through the place. Being part of their journey means being part of something far greater than technology. It’s about knowing that when we solve an IT problem or upgrade a system, we’re freeing up more time, resources, and energy for the people who matter most – the children and families they support.

Our job is to make sure IT simply works, so the team can do the extraordinary work they do without distraction. And every time we visit Rainbow Hub, we’re reminded exactly why that matters.
